Yoga & Women
Along with the growth of feminism and gender equality, women have more access for multiple roles – at home and at work and some women have role as the breadwinner of the family. This evolution brings more freedom and achievement for women and consequently, has changed the role of women in society. More jobs and roles become unisex which is favorable for fairness and equality. Nevertheless, this evolution has caused women to be prone to stress, uneasy to be happy, dissatisfied and difficult to have contentment. Women think that being strong all the time is a must and being superwomen or supermoms is the upmost accomplishment in society.
At body level, feeling fatigue is the signal of lack of feminine energy and too much utilization of masculine energy. At mind level, feeling stress and/or depressed is the signal of lack of self-nurturing actions and excess of pursuing actions. The feeling of not being enough. While feminine and masculine energy are both naturally exist in both men and women; and being men or women doesn’t give more or less access to feminine and masculine energy as they have both the energy at various amount, women need to wisely utilize the energy based on their body needs which is highly influenced by their monthly cycle. Too much masculine energy may cause imbalance.
Yoga for women is a practice of nurturing themselves. Yoga untangles the knots in muscle and connective tissues through the harmony of breath, asanas/movements and mind centering. Yoga guides women to understand themselves and choose the nourishing practices, makes women not only feel strong, yet also able to relax and eventually, enable women to accept that women body has unique characteristic that differentiate from men and hence, women may not always able to be strong all the time. Women needs to utilize the feminine and masculine energy wisely, need to respect our body when it needs a slowdown, when it needs a resting time, when it needs a self-care, and it is fine for not always being fine. It doesn’t make a woman less worth than the other women or even men. Women are unique and beautiful on their nature. Yoga class may incorporate strong, sweaty and dynamic flow to utilize our masculine side and also, some gentle and relaxing poses to engage our feminine energy
